The Film

Hearts of Glass follows the tumultuous first 15 months of operation of Vertical Harvest (VH), a state-of-the-art hydroponic greenhouse that provides meaningful employment for people with disabilities. The film weaves the story of VH’s launch with the personal journeys of employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Plants and people grow together in this intimate portrait of innovation, inclusion and community.

Hearts of Glass premiered at the prestigious Wild & Scenic Film Festival and has been screening at festivals and conferences across the country. Over the course of 2019 and into 2020, the film will be the centerpiece of a national grassroots screening campaign engaging families, advocates, support providers, employers and leaders in diversity and inclusion. In 2020, Hearts of Glass will also reach a broad audience through national PBS broadcast and global online video-on-demand platforms.

Hearts of Glass is a catalyst for productive conversations about meaningful employment and community inclusion. The film can be a tool to augment the powerful work you are already engaged in – raising awareness about the capabilities of people with disabilities, the benefits of a diverse workforce, and improving employment outcomes.

We’ve created a screening kit with everything you need to introduce the film and lead an inspiring conversation after a showing.

If you’d like to bring Hearts of Glass to your business or community, please take a few minutes to say hello!
